This course provides systematic training in special education assessment theories, methods, and practical skills. Topics include assessment principles, standardized assessment tools (intelligence tests, achievement tests, adaptive behavior scales), informal assessment methods (observation, interviews, curriculum-based assessment, portfolio assessment), and results interpretation. Students learn about pre-referral intervention, multidisciplinary team evaluation, and comprehensive report writing, emphasizing assessment's central role in identification, placement, and IEP development.

Based on provided simulated assessment data (intelligence test, academic achievement test, adaptive behavior assessment, classroom observations, and parent interview records), students will write a comprehensive special education evaluation report. The report should include background information, assessment purposes and tools, results and analysis, educational diagnosis, and recommendations for placement and services. Professional formatting, accurate data interpretation, specific recommendations, and ethical awareness are required.
