Common App 主文书

7 prompts · 650 words

Overview Common App Essay 概述

Common App

The Common App Essay is the central personal essay required by most US undergraduate applications through the Common Application. Applicants choose one of seven prompts and write a single essay of up to 650 words (a hard limit enforced by the system). The essay goes to every Common App school on your list, so it should be broadly personal rather than school-specific. The 2025-26 prompts are largely stable, with the option to write on a topic of your choice.

Prompts Analysis 7

Topic Selection

Structure & Narrative

Hook (开头钩子)Open in a specific moment; avoid broad generalisations about life or society
Context (背景)Provide just enough setting for the reader to understand the scene
Action / Conflict (行动与冲突)Show what you did, decided or struggled with; tension drives narrative
Reflection (反思)Explain what you learned and how you changed; this is the essay's core
Conclusion (结尾)Connect back to the opening; project forward without over-promising
Word budget (字数分配)Roughly 100 opening + 400 body + 150 closing, adjusted to the story

Revision Checklist
