The UCAS Personal Statement is a single essay submitted through the UK's Universities and Colleges Admissions Service for undergraduate entry. One statement goes to all your UCAS choices (up to five), so it must be subject-focused rather than campus-specific. The limits are 4000 characters including spaces and 47 lines, whichever is reached first. Admissions tutors use it to judge academic motivation, subject engagement and readiness for independent study at a UK university.

Structure 结构框架

开头 / 学术兴趣 / 相关经历 / 课外活动 / 结尾五段式，学术占比应不低于 70%。

• Opening (开头)
  State the subject interest and the spark behind it in 2-3 sentences. Avoid famous quotes; be direct and specific.
• Academic Interest (学术兴趣)
  The largest section. Show engagement beyond the syllabus: reading, lectures, MOOCs, podcasts, independent projects. Reflect, do not list.
• Relevant Experience (相关经历)
  Research placements, competitions, work experience or shadowing linked to the subject. Explain what you observed and learned.
• Extracurriculars (课外活动)
  Keep brief. Focus on transferable skills: leadership, time management, resilience. Tie back to readiness for university study.
• Conclusion (结尾)
  Reaffirm commitment to the subject and readiness for UK higher education. Look forward to university-level study; avoid naming a specific university.

Subject-specific Tips 按学科分类的写作要点

  Emphasise problem-solving: a specific proof, a competition problem, a project. Show you enjoy the struggle of abstraction, not just results.

  Connect theory to a real-world issue you have followed. Show analytical thinking and awareness of competing perspectives.

  Reflect on a portfolio piece or influence; show how you think through making and critique. Mention exhibitions or artists studied.

  For each subject, capture: required reading evidence, recommended super-curricular activities and a sample reflective sentence.

Common Mistakes 常见误区

开头堆名言、罗列书单不加反思、提及具体校名是常见失分点。

• Famous quotes (名人名言开头)
  Openers like "As Einstein said..." waste precious characters and are read by every tutor. Start with your own words.
• Reading lists (书单罗列)
  Listing ten books without reflection signals surface engagement. Discuss two in depth: what you argued with, what you learned.
• Naming universities (提及具体校名)
  Since one PS goes to all five choices, naming a campus breaks the model. Keep it subject-focused.
• Clichés (套话)
  "From a young age I have always..." is the most-flagged UCAS cliché. Open with something specific and recent.
• Over-long activities (活动篇幅过长)
  Sport and music matter, but they should not crowd out academic content. Keep them to one short paragraph.
• Ignoring line limit (忽视行数限制)
  47 lines is enforced even if you are under 4000 characters. Formatting and paragraph breaks affect line count.
