Edexcel International A-Level Further Mathematics is a modular course extending A-Level Mathematics through Further Pure units (FP1, FP2 and FP3) combined with advanced applied units in Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Mathematics. Students sit each unit separately and may retake individual units. Content spans complex numbers, matrices, proof, further calculus, hyperbolic functions, differential equations and polar coordinates. Further Mathematics is strongly preferred (and sometimes required) for mathematics, theoretical physics, computer science and engineering at top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, NUS and HKU. It develops the rigour and abstraction needed for STEM-intensive degrees. The modular Edexcel IAL format lets students retake individual FP or applied units to optimise their final grade.
