AP Biology, administered by the College Board, is equivalent to a full-year university General Biology course. Organized around eight units and four Big Ideas (evolution, energetics, information, systems), it covers the chemistry of life, cells, energetics, cell communication, heredity, gene expression, natural selection and ecology, with strong emphasis on inquiry and data analysis.

AP Biology is scored 1–5; most US colleges grant credit for 4 or 5, typically mapping to one or two semesters of introductory biology (with lab). Pre-med and life-science programs often accept a 4/5 as a prerequisite waiver. Policies vary by institution.
