IGCSE Biology is the international GCSE Biology course for students aged 14-16, preparing students for A-Level Biology, IB Biology and medical / life-science pathways. It covers cell biology, biological molecules and enzymes, human physiology (nutrition, respiration, transport, nervous and hormonal coordination, excretion, reproduction), plant physiology, inheritance and evolution, ecology and biotechnology, with emphasis on practical skills, microscopy and data analysis.

Core 不含光合机制、生化检测、定量遗传；Extended 增加全部，上限 A*/9。
CoreCore covers biological classification, cell structure, basic human and plant physiology (respiration, circulation, digestion, reproduction, coordination), ecology and simple inheritance concepts. Core does not require molecular mechanisms of photosynthesis, biochemical food tests, quantitative genetics, detailed hormonal regulation, or genetic engineering and biotechnology, with a maximum grade of C.
ExtExtended builds on Core by adding biochemical food tests for biological molecules and enzymes, light and dark reactions of photosynthesis, full genetics (meiosis, monohybrid inheritance, sex determination), homeostasis and kidney structure, mechanisms of natural selection and evolution, and genetic engineering and biotechnology. Extended questions are longer and more synthesised, capping at A* / 9, and is the recommended preparation for A-Level Biology or IB Biology HL.

IGCSE Biology (Extended recommended) is the standard preparation for A-Level Biology (CAIE 9700), IB Biology HL/SL and medical / biomedical / life-science / pharmacy pathways. After completing IGCSE Biology Extended, students can progress directly to A-Level AS; those with a solid foundation in cell biology, human physiology, genetics and ecology transition more smoothly to A-Level biochemistry, gene regulation, neurobiology and quantitative evolutionary ecology. For students applying to medicine, biomedical science or pharmacy, an A* or 9 in IGCSE Biology is recommended, alongside a strong IGCSE Chemistry.
