It develops source analysis, causation, change and continuity, and interpretation skills. There is no Core/Extended tier; all candidates sit the same papers.

ExtNote: IGCSE History (0470 / 0977) has no Core/Extended tier; all candidates sit the same Paper 1, Paper 2 and Component 3 (or Paper 4), graded A*-G or 9-1. Difficulty gradients reflect question type and assessment depth rather than tiering.
Specifically: Paper 1 is structured questions (causation, impact and significance essays); Paper 2 is source-based analysis (a prescribed topic announced annually, requiring source-value analysis, cross-corroboration and refutation), carrying the highest evaluative demand; Component 3 / Paper 4 covers Depth Study extended writing. Topic tags here reflect relative difficulty: Core Content 1-2 are basic narrative and causal analysis (core), while 3-6 and all Depth Studies involve more complex causal argument and interpretation (ext).

衔接 A-Level History 9484/9389、IB History,政治/国际关系/法律/新闻建议 A*/9。
IGCSE History is the standard preparation for A-Level History (CAIE 9484 / 9389), IB History HL/SL and humanities pathways (politics, international relations, law, journalism). After completing IGCSE History, students progress directly to A-Level AS; those with a solid foundation in source analysis, causation and interpretation transition more smoothly to A-Level broader time periods (medieval, early modern, modern), thematic comparative history and independent coursework. For students applying to history, politics, law, international relations or journalism, an A* or 9 in IGCSE History is recommended.
