The SAT is a standardized test administered by the College Board and widely used for US undergraduate admission. It measures reading, writing and mathematical reasoning skills developed throughout a student's education. Since 2024 the SAT has transitioned to a fully digital, adaptive format, with two parallel modules per section that adjust question difficulty based on performance.

The digital SAT consists of two stages: (1) Reading and Writing, organized into two 32-minute modules with short passages and discrete questions; (2) Math, organized into two 35-minute modules allowing calculator use throughout. Each stage begins with a calibration module that determines the difficulty of the second module, providing a more individualized assessment in a shorter total testing time of about 2 hours 14 minutes plus breaks.

The SAT total score ranges from 400 to 1600, combining two section scores of 200-800 each: Reading and Writing, and Math. There is no penalty for incorrect answers, so test-takers should attempt every question. The SAT is offered roughly seven times per year, typically in March, May, June, August, October, November and December. Registration is conducted through the College Board website; international candidates should register early as test center capacity is limited.
