Steps
Step 1
Phenomenon Selection & Literature Review
The core task of this step is to select a communication phenomenon for study and conduct systematic literature review, laying the theoretical foundation for subsequent analysis. Choosing a contemporary communication phenomenon with research value is crucial, requiring consideration of typicality, timeliness, and analyzability. Through extensive reading of relevant academic literature, understand the research status and theoretical resources in the field, identifying research entry points and innovations.
• Select typical research phenomena from current communication hotspots such as algorithmic recommendation, short video dissemination, social media political participation, or misinformation spread, define research scope and core questions
• Use academic databases such as CNKI, Web of Science, and Google Scholar to retrieve relevant literature, categorize by theoretical schools and research perspectives, write literature review
• Review at least two communication theories as analytical tools, such as agenda-setting, uses and gratifications, framing theory, cultivation theory, or political economy of communication, clarify core viewpoints and scope of application of each theory
Deliverable: Literature review and research questions (including phenomenon description, literature review, research questions, theoretical selection rationale) | Quality standard: Research topic has academic value, comprehensive and systematic literature review, clear and specific research questions
Step 2
Theoretical Framework Construction & Research Design
This step focuses on establishing the analytical theoretical framework and research path, addressing the questions of "which theories to use for analysis" and "how to analyze." The theoretical framework is the skeleton of the study, determining the depth and breadth of analysis. Organically combining different theories to construct analytical perspectives suitable for the research object can make the study more insightful and persuasive.
• Deeply study core concepts, basic assumptions, and analytical dimensions of selected theories, draw theoretical framework diagram, clarify logical relationships between various theoretical elements
• Design research path and analytical methods, determine whether to use case study, comparative analysis, text analysis, or discourse analysis, clarify unit of analysis and analytical dimensions
• Propose specific research questions and preliminary research hypotheses, explain the connection between theory and phenomenon, anticipate potential findings and contributions of the study
Deliverable: Theoretical analytical framework (including theoretical framework diagram, research design, analytical dimension explanation, research hypotheses) | Quality standard: Clear theoretical framework, reasonable analytical path, accurate connection point between theory and phenomenon
Step 3
Case Analysis & Theory Application
This step is the core argumentation phase of the study, applying the constructed theoretical framework to conduct in-depth analysis of the communication phenomenon. Through detailed analysis of specific cases, verify the explanatory power of the theory, discover its limitations, and reveal the deep mechanisms behind the phenomenon. The analysis process should achieve close integration of theory and materials, with both theoretical height and empirical depth.
• Select 2-3 typical cases for in-depth analysis, use text analysis or content analysis to systematically code and interpret case materials, extract key analytical categories
• Conduct cross-analysis of the same phenomenon from multiple theoretical perspectives, compare explanatory power and applicable boundaries of different theories, discover complementarity and tension between theories
• Conduct contextualized analysis combined with social, political, economic, and technological contexts, explore deep socio-cultural motivations behind the communication phenomenon, avoid simplistic technological determinism
Deliverable: Analysis and argumentation draft (including case analysis, theory application, cross-discussion, preliminary findings) | Quality standard: In-depth and insightful analysis, tight integration of theory and materials, rigorous argumentation logic
Step 4
Report Writing & Academic Standards
This step transforms analytical results into standardized academic texts, serving as the results presentation phase of the study. A good academic report requires not only good research content but also clear structure and standardized expression. Strictly following academic norms and properly citing literature is a fundamental requirement for academic research.
• Write the report according to standard academic paper structure, including abstract, keywords, introduction, literature review, theoretical framework, case analysis, conclusion and discussion, references, and other sections
• Apply academic writing standards, ensure clear arguments, sufficient evidence, rigorous reasoning, use academic language expression, avoid colloquial and emotional expressions
• Strictly follow citation standards, use GB/T 7714 or APA format for citing references, distinguish between direct and indirect citations,杜绝 academic misconduct
Deliverable: Academic analysis report (including complete paper text, references, appendix materials) | Quality standard: Complete and standardized structure, clear argumentation logic, accurate citation format, meets academic writing requirements
Step 5
Presentation & Research Reflection
This step is the summary and sublimation phase of the study, through oral presentation and written reflection, sorting out main findings of the study, reviewing shortcomings, and envisioning future research directions. Presentations develop academic communication skills, while reflection deepens understanding of the research process—both are important pathways for improving academic ability.
• Create academic presentation PPT, extract core viewpoints and main findings of the study, design clear visual presentation, prepare 15-20 minute oral presentation
• Write research reflection report, summarize gains and shortcomings during the research process, analyze limitations of the study, propose future research directions for further exploration
• Organize all research materials including raw data, analysis notes, draft versions, final report, establish complete research archive
Deliverable: Presentation and research reflection (including presentation PPT, research reflection report, complete research archive) | Quality standard: Clear and organized presentation, profound and insightful reflection, complete and standardized research archive
