Painting Fundamentals

This core painting course introduces painting materials and techniques systematically. Covering watercolor, oil, and acrylic media, topics include color mixing, brushwork, pictorial layering, and light and shadow modeling. Through still life, landscape, and portrait exercises, students master the basic languages of different painting genres. The course emphasizes exploration of personal artistic voice, guiding students to develop unique expressive approaches while building on traditional techniques.
学生需自选主题创作一组4幅系列绘画作品，每幅尺寸不小于半开，可选用油画、丙烯或水彩媒介。要求作品围绕统一主题展开，在色彩、构图、风格上形成内在关联。学生需提交创作提案，经教师指导后完成作品。作品需展现对绘画技法的熟练运用和对主题的深入思考，并附创作说明阐述创作理念、视觉语言选择与艺术表达意图。
Students self-select a theme and create a series of four paintings, each at half-sheet size or larger, using oil, acrylic, or watercolor. The works must revolve around a unified theme with coherent color, composition, and style. Students submit a proposal and develop the work under faculty guidance. The project demonstrates technical proficiency and thematic depth, accompanied by an artist statement.
