• Determine research topic, choose a research direction from periods, genres, composers, forms, works of Western music history, such as Bach and Baroque music, Classical period, Mozart operas, Beethoven symphonies, Romantic music, etc.
• Conduct literature search and data collection, use academic databases, library resources, internet resources to collect relevant books, papers, recordings, scores and other materials, establish research literature library, sort out research status and academic history
• Collect musical works and audio materials, select representative works of the research object, obtain high-quality recordings and scores, conduct in-depth listening and score reading, establish perceptual knowledge and musical experience of the research object
