Western Music History
本课程系统讲授西方音乐从古至今的发展历程，涵盖中世纪、文艺复兴、巴洛克、古典主义、浪漫主义、印象派及二十世纪等重要时期。通过聆听经典作品、研读历史文献和分析音乐风格演变，学生将深入理解各时期的音乐家、代表性作品、体裁形式及社会文化背景。课程培养学生的音乐历史视野和审美鉴赏能力，为音乐表演、理论研究和创作提供历史参照。
This course systematically teaches the development of Western music from ancient times to the present, covering the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, and Twentieth Century periods. Through listening to classic works, studying historical documents, and analyzing stylistic evolution, students gain deep understanding of composers, representative works, genres, and social-cultural contexts of each period. The course develops students' historical perspective and aesthetic appreciation, providing historical reference for performance, research, and composition.

Select an important composer in Western music history and one representative work to write an in-depth research report. Content includes the composer's biography and historical position, the work's creative background and premiere, musical form and stylistic analysis, historical influence, and later critical reception. The paper should combine score analysis with listening experience, cite at least five scholarly sources, and be approximately 3000 words.
