A-Level English at AQA is offered as two separate linear qualifications: English Language (7707) and English Literature (7717). Both are assessed entirely by terminal exams at the end of two years, with a Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) component for full A-Level. Language students analyse textual variations, language diversity and change, and children's language development; Literature students study texts across time including the universal theme of "Love through the ages" and contextual literary periods. Together they form a core subject for English, journalism, law, education, media and humanities applicants.

  Textual variations and representations, methods of language analysis, children's language development (spoken, written and multimodal 0-11 years)
• A2[Language] 6. Language diversity and change
  Language change over time (Old to Modern English), global English, language diversity (regional, social, individual), language discourses and debates, evaluation essay
• A2[Language] 7. NEA: Language in action
  Language investigation (original data-led research) and a piece of original writing with a supporting commentary, 3,500 words total
• A2[Literature] 8. Texts in shared contexts
  One option from: Modern times (literature from 1945 to present) · WW1 and its aftermath · Literature from 1945 to present, including set prose, poetry and drama texts
• A2[Literature] 9. NEA: Independent critical study
  Comparative critical study of two texts, at least one pre-1900, on a chosen theme, 2,500-word essay plus bibliography
