The former Further Math HL IA followed the same framework as other IB mathematics courses — an individual mathematical exploration worth 20% of the final grade. Topics were expected to demonstrate greater mathematical sophistication. The current Math AA HL IA inherits this framework, encouraging exploration in complex numbers, group theory, or differential equations.
