IGCSE Chemistry is the international GCSE Chemistry course for students aged 14-16, serving as the standard preparation for A-Level Chemistry, IB Chemistry and science-oriented university programmes. It covers states of matter, atomic structure, stoichiometry, electrochemistry, chemical energetics, reactions, acids/bases/salts, the Periodic Table, metals, environmental chemistry and organic chemistry, with emphasis on practical work, equation writing and mole calculations.

CoreCore covers fundamental concepts: states of matter, atomic structure, chemical bonding, energy changes, acids/bases/salts, the Periodic Table and metals. Core does not require complex mole calculations, quantitative electrolysis analysis, equilibrium shifts, or organic chemistry nomenclature, with a maximum grade of C.
ExtExtended builds on Core by adding full stoichiometry (mole calculations and limiting reactants), quantitative electrochemistry, reaction rates and quantitative equilibrium, environmental chemistry (water and air pollution), and organic chemistry (alkanes/alkenes, alcohols, carboxylic acids, esterification, polymers). Extended caps at A* / 9 and is the recommended preparation for A-Level Chemistry.

IGCSE Chemistry (Extended recommended) is the standard preparation for A-Level Chemistry (CAIE 9701), IB Chemistry HL/SL and medical / chemical / materials / biological science pathways. After completing IGCSE Chemistry, students can progress directly to A-Level AS; those with a solid foundation in bonding, mole calculations, acids/bases/salts and organic chemistry transition more smoothly to A-Level physical chemistry, organic mechanisms and quantitative equilibrium analysis. For students applying to medicine, chemical engineering or pharmacy, an A* or 9 in IGCSE Chemistry is recommended.
