IGCSE 英语
CAIE 0500 / 0510
IGCSE 英语分 First Language 0500 与 Second Language 0510 两条路径。
IGCSE English in the CAIE system is split into two pathways: First Language English (0500, for near-native speakers) and English as a Second Language (0510/0511, for non-native speakers). Both develop reading, writing and speaking skills but differ in emphasis: 0500 focuses on literary and discursive writing; 0510 emphasises communicative and academic English with equal weight on listening and speaking. 0510 has Core/Extended tiers; 0500 does not.

CoreFirst Language English (0500) has no Core/Extended tier; all candidates sit unified papers. Second Language 0510 offers both tiers: Core uses shorter texts and more direct questions, with slower listening and speaking audio, capping at grade C.
Ext0510 Extended builds on Core: reading texts are longer and more abstract (involving opinions, inference and analysis of author attitude); writing tasks are more complex (including reports, argumentative essays and proposal-style directed writing); listening materials approach authentic speed, with longer monologues and multi-speaker dialogues. 0500 (First Language) Paper 1 and Paper 2 are above 0510 Extended in difficulty, requiring literary writing and critical reading.

Note: 0500 has 9-1 grading only; 0510/0511 have Core/Extended choice. The difference between 0511 and 0510 is whether speaking counts toward the total.
0500 衔接 A-Level 9093/9695、IB English A;0510 可作英语能力证明替代雅思。
IGCSE First Language English (0500) is the standard preparation for A-Level English Language (CAIE 9093), A-Level English Literature (9695) and IB English A Language and Literature HL/SL; most UK universities accept 0500 Paper 1+2 at grade 5/4+ as English proficiency evidence (some courses require 6+). IGCSE English Second Language (0510) is typically used as English proficiency evidence for non-native applicants, leading to IB English B HL/SL or as a language-score alternative for university applications; most UK universities accept 0510 Extended at B/6+ (top universities may require A/7+). Chinese students applying overseas often use 0510 as preliminary evidence in place of IELTS/TOEFL.
