IGCSE Physics is the international version of GCSE Physics for students aged 14-16, typically serving as a pathway to A-Level or IB Physics. It covers mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electromagnetism and nuclear physics, with strong emphasis on practical skills, data analysis and unit conversions. The course is split into Core and Extended tiers, where Extended adds space physics, momentum conservation and electromagnetic induction.

CoreCore is suitable for average-ability students and covers only the first five topics (motion and energy, thermal physics, waves, electricity and magnetism, nuclear physics), with a maximum grade of C. Core excludes vector decomposition of momentum conservation, quantitative electromagnetic induction, and space physics.
ExtExtended builds on Core by adding the Space physics chapter, plus quantitative momentum conservation, electromagnetic induction and transformers, and radioactivity analysis. Extended caps at A* (or 9) and is the recommended path into A-Level Physics.

IGCSE Physics (Extended recommended) is the standard preparation for A-Level Physics (CAIE 9702), IB Physics HL/SL and AP Physics 1/2/C. After completing IGCSE Physics, students can progress directly to A-Level AS or the first year of IB DP; those with a strong foundation in mechanics, electromagnetism and waves transition more smoothly to advanced A-Level topics such as quantum physics, circular motion and quantitative electromagnetic induction. For students applying to engineering, medicine, physics or computer science, an A* or 9 in IGCSE Physics is recommended.
