Steps

Step 1
Research Design and Archaeology Question Formulation
The core task of this step is to determine the specific archaeological excavation and site research and formulate academically valuable research questions based on literature review. Research design is the starting point of Archaeology research, requiring clear research subjects, core questions, theoretical frameworks, and research methods. Systematic preliminary exploration ensures research questions have both theoretical significance and feasibility.

• Review relevant Archaeology theories and research status, search 20+ core articles from recent decade through databases like JSTOR and Google Scholar, identify research gaps and controversies
• Select appropriate methodological approach from field excavation, stratigraphy, typology, radiocarbon dating, determine research subjects and units of analysis, formulate 1 core research question and 2-3 sub-questions
• Write 1500-word research design including background, questions and hypotheses, theoretical framework, methodology, ethical considerations, timeline, submit to advisor for review
Deliverable: Research design (including research questions, theoretical framework, method design, ethics review form, 20 references) | Quality standard: Research questions are specific and focused, theoretical framework is clear, method selection is appropriate, ethical considerations are comprehensive
Step 2
Data Collection and Archaeology Evidence Gathering
The core task of this step is to systematically collect data and evidence required for the study according to the research design. Archaeology research emphasizes diversity and reliability of evidence, requiring multiple methods to obtain data from different sources. Data collection must strictly follow research norms to ensure authenticity, completeness, and traceability of data.

• Use methods including field excavation, stratigraphy, typology, radiocarbon dating to systematically collect primary or secondary data, build research database, ensuring reliable sources and complete records
• Use tools including total station, GIS, 3D scanning, flotation method for preliminary organization and classification of data, establish a data indexing system for subsequent retrieval and analysis
• Conduct data quality assessment: verify data sources, check completeness, annotate credibility levels, exclude unreliable or irrelevant data, ensuring quality of research evidence
Deliverable: Research dataset (including raw data, organized classified data, data index table, quality assessment report) | Quality standard: Data collection is systematic and comprehensive, sources are reliable, classification is clear, quality has been rigorously assessed
Step 3
Archaeology Analysis and Theoretical Dialogue
This step is the core of the research, using Archaeology theories and methods to conduct in-depth analysis of data and engage in dialogue with existing theories. The analysis process requires close integration of theory and empirical evidence—extracting new insights from data while positioning research findings within academic tradition. Core arguments of the study are formed through analysis and dialogue.

• Apply core concepts and analytical frameworks of Archaeology for systematic coding and in-depth analysis of data, extracting 10-15 core analytical categories
• Engage analytical results in dialogue with 2-3 classical or contemporary theories, compare similarities and differences, verify or revise existing theories, propose unique findings of this study
• Construct overall argumentative logic of the study, determine 3-4 core analytical chapters, write detailed outlines for each chapter, ensuring arguments are supported by sufficient evidence
Deliverable: Analysis report (including coding system, theoretical dialogue, chapter outlines, core argument extraction) | Quality standard: Analysis is in-depth and systematic, theoretical dialogue has depth, core arguments are supported by sufficient evidence
Step 4
Synthetic Interpretation and Archaeology Significance Extraction
The core task of this step is to synthesize all analytical components and extract the overall significance and academic contribution of the study. Synthetic interpretation is not simple accumulation of analytical results but theoretical elevation at a higher level, answering the "so what" question. The study's contributions and value at theoretical, methodological, or practical levels must be clearly articulated.

• Synthesize findings from analytical chapters at theoretical level, construct holistic explanatory framework, answer core research questions, clarify theoretical contributions of this study
• Reflect on gains and losses of research design and implementation at methodological level, discuss advantages and limitations of research methods, provide methodological reference for similar studies
• Explore practical significance of research findings at practical level, propose 1-2 inspiring policy recommendations or practical implications, expanding applied value of the study
Deliverable: Synthetic interpretation chapter (including theoretical contributions, methodological reflections, practical significance, research limitations and future directions) | Quality standard: Synthetic interpretation has theoretical height, clear contributions, profound reflection, clear practical significance
Step 5
Academic Paper Writing and Archaeology Standards
The core task of this step is to write research findings into a research paper conforming to Archaeology academic standards. The paper must have complete structure, rigorous logic, refined language, and proper citations. From abstract to conclusion, each section must be carefully polished to ensure optimal presentation of research findings. The final paper should reach the level of submission to academic journals.

• Write according to standard academic paper structure: abstract (300 words), keywords (3-5), introduction (1500 words), literature review (1500 words), research methods (1000 words), analysis chapters (4000 words), conclusion and discussion (1500 words), references, total text no less than 10,000 words
• Unify citation format (Chicago Notes or APA 7th edition), ensure all citations are accurate, reference list of no fewer than 30 entries with fully standardized format
• Conduct three rounds of revision: first round adjusts structure and argumentation, second polishes language and expression, third proofreads format and citations, ensuring paper reaches academic publication standard
Deliverable: Complete Archaeology research paper (approximately 10,000-15,000 words, complete structure, proper citations) | Quality standard: Paper has complete structure, rigorous logic, sufficient argumentation, proper citations, reaching excellent undergraduate course paper level
